As the Omicron variant of COVID-19 takes hold in the NFL, few teams have been hit as hard in these last few weeks as the Browns. Cleveland has routinely had among the most players in the league in COVID protocols, including starting quarterback Baker Mayfield and his backup Case Keenum.

The Browns enter their Christmas Day game on a short week after having their Week 15 game against the Raiders moved to Tuesday. Third-stringer Nick Mullens led the Browns in that game, which they ultimately lost on a walkoff field goal by Las Vegas. Cleveland enters the game at 7-7, currently on the outside looking in of the playoffs right now, but if they can win their division, that may be their best chance at making the playoffs.

Both Mayfield and head coach Kevin Stefanski are slated to test out of the league’s current COVID-19 protocols and be ready for the Christmas game, but it may not matter as the Packers are one of the hottest teams in the NFL.

Aaron Rodgers is actively campaigning for another NFL MVP award and seems to be making a good case with 30 touchdowns, four interceptions and 3,487 yards while completing 68 percent of his passes. The Packers are 11-3 and 8-2 in NFC play and are likely to enter the playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

Rodgers can also make Packer history on Saturday and get himself a nice Christmas gift as he is primed to break Brett Favre’s record for most touchdowns by a Packers quarterback if he can find the end zone just once. Thanks in large part to Rodgers, Packers wideout Davante Adams is third in the league in receiving yards and fourth in catches.
