Tom Brady praises ‘brave and courageous’ reporter who asked Bill Belichick about his New Year’s resolution
In the aftermath of the Patriots’ 33-21 loss to the Bills on Sunday afternoon, a reporter asked Bill Belichick if he had any New Year’s resolutions as 2021 comes to a close.
The question itself has captured the attention of many across the NFL despite Belichick’s relatively tame response to it. That includes Belichick’s former quarterback, Tom Brady.
Brady was asked about the question on his weekly “Let’s Go” podcast with Jim Gray. He lauded the reporter for her bravery and joked that he is hoping to emulate it in 2022.
“I want to be as brave and courageous as she was, asking that question to Coach Belichick after a loss,” Brady said. “That’s what I want for the New Year.”
Brady knows a thing or two about how Belichick deals with a loss, as the duo posted a 214-64 regular-season record during their time together in New England. So, while Brady has far more experience being on the winning end of things, he still knows how despondent Belichick can get after losses. That surely made him all the more impressed that the reporter was willing to ask a non-football question to his former coach.
That said, the reporter’s question has largely gone viral because of its timing. It was one of the first questions that Belichick was asked after a loss that dropped the Patriots out of first place in the AFC East. But the veteran coach didn’t seem bothered by it. He just didn’t want to answer it at that time.
“Yeah, not right now,” Belichick said when asked about his New Year’s resolution. “Maybe next week.”
As such, this whole interaction isn’t a big deal. Neither party made much of a fuss about it, so as fun as it is for Brady and others to joke about it, it will likely be an afterthought in a matter of days.
