Economy Week Ahead: China Trade, Fed Talk, ECB’s Next Move

U.S. jobless claims are expected to fall to a fresh pandemic low in the week ended Sept. 4


Trade and inflation data from China, Federal Reserve speakers and the European Central Bank’s next policy move will be in focus this week.


China’s export growth is likely to slow further in August, retreating from the 19.3% year-over-year gain in July. An outbreak of the Delta variant of Covid-19 that started at the end of July shut coastal ports in Southeast China and created new bottlenecks for shippers during the peak late-summer season. Economists expect the imports to underperform July’s 28.1% annual gain.
